Course Description

This course is an introduction to the challenges and opportunities associated with starting a new fashion retailing business. It introduces the entrepreneurial mind-set, examines the initiation and ongoing management of new business ventures, and guides students through initial steps in developing a feasibility study as preparation for a business plan. Drawing on textbook readings, articles, and podcasts, the course provides an overview of entrepreneurial principles for use in a variety of fashion-based retail settings, including brick-and-mortar stores, stores with accompanying website, and Web-only retail stores. This course is being refocused for use in our proposed FCSC thematic minor on fashion and consumers, including a change in the course title and description. Funding for this course modification is provided by an OEP grant.RCSC major are welcome to take this course toward the minor.
